3 Star Expedition

3 June 2019

This week was half term week in Sussex and that means lots of training for our cadets.

Some of our more senior cadets embarked on their 3* and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions on Sunday morning.

The requirements for the expedition were for the cadets to cover 40km over 3 days.
The Dorset coast provided the perfect setting (and weather) for them to embark on their journey.

Part of the challenge of the DofE is that the cadets must entirely plan their route themselves and remain entirely self sufficient for the duration of the expedition. The cadets met this challenge excellently and successfully completed their walk on Tuesday afternoon at Shell Bay on Studland.

As well as walking a long distance each day, cadets were taking the time to appreciate the scenery and gather material to support each of their expedition aims; ‘A Study of Species of Tree Along the Dorset Coast’ and ‘Comparing Rural and Urban Tourism Facilities’.

On the way home the group stopped at Bovington Tank Museum where many of them were fascinated not only by the scale of the equipment, but by the progression in technology from the first mass produced tanks to those in operation today.
